I begin with simple sketches and from there start to cut my stencils. When I am trying for a new effect, in this case a bonfire, it may take many tries to get the look I want and with the bleach sublimation process it is impossible to predict exactly how the fabric will respond. There is a lot of trial and error and even with a lot of trials the final piece will always take on a unique appearance. This is the first basic step in my new piece “Witches.”
